earned the Summit Award and Peak
Performance Team Award for exemplary
operations during the 2007-2008 fiscal year.
To qualify for the Peak Performance Team
Award, an area first had to earn the

Information on Understanding the Financial
Crisis
Over the past few weeks,
as the global financial crisis has been
unfolding, there has never been a time when the
young people JA serves are more in need of
timely information that will help them understand
the present crisis and, more importantly, how a
similar crisis may be averted in the future.
To the end, two versions of a paper titled,
Understanding the Financial Crisis: origin and
impact have been commissioned by JA Worldwide
to provide students and volunteers/educators with a
better perspective of the evolution of
the present crisis, its impact on
the economy, and lessons
learned.

 AT&T Job
Shadow
Days
Last spring, AT&T announced a $5.5
million grant to JA Worldwide to support the JA
Job Shadow initiative that will reach 100,000 high
school students in the United States over the next
five years. The purpose of the initiative is
to provide career exposure and insight into the
education requirements for AT&T jobs to high
school students with goals of decreasing the drop
out rates and increasing the talent pipeline for
the business community.
Locally, the first of these Job Shadow Days
operated this month with 470 students
participating from 9 campuses of the San
Antonio Independent School District. We
extend our sincere appreciation to the AT&T
Job Shadow Day coordinators, volunteers, AT&T
Foundation, SAISD educators and GEAR UP staff for
their support in enabling students to experience a
potential
future. |
