JA Our Neighbors is a series of culturally responsive videos designed to help contextualize concepts introduced in JA’s elementary school programs. The videos use social emotional learning concepts to support participating students. The JA Our Neighbors video resource is designed to help students with their need to bridge the digital divide, promote diversity, increase literacy, and boost confidence when a volunteer visits the classroom. These program enhancements are intended to enrich the JA experience for students, teachers, and volunteers, creating a deeper relationship with Junior Achievement and the mission.

Following their experience with this resource, students will be able to:
  • Explore careers, entrepreneurship, and an understanding of money through the involvement of guest hosts and at-home activities.
  • Build a foundation of key terms so that students are better prepared to understand the content in JA’s elementary programs.
  • Learn foundational concepts in a virtual setting to help them connect the program content to their personal experiences.
  • See their boundless potential by sharing examples across industry sectors and demographics.
  • Focus on their social and emotional wellness via deep breathing exercises and affirmations.

JA Our Neighbors is recommended for elementary school students (grades K–5). The videos and activities can be volunteer- or educator-led and are available for classroom-based or remote live implementation. There are four videos per grade band (grades K–2 and grades 3–5) with accompanying activities and discussion questions.

JA programs support national and state standards in reading, mathematics, social studies, and work and career readiness. See below for more information on alignment with national and state standards.
